In the early stages of this book,
we had the idea that it might be interesting and enlightening
to hear from the children of the people profiled in the book.
That hypothesis to be correct, but, alas, the page count
didn't cooperate, so these wonderful chapters that appear
below had to be trimmed from the book. Hail hail the infinite
space of the World Wide Web!

Lost Youth
Unfortunately, the murder
of Allison Krause and her three schoolmates at Kent State
was not an isolated incident. Especially in the civil rights
movement, where too many people intended to fight the Civil
War all over again, killing as a weapon of terror was employed
all too often. That more people didn't die at their hands
was only a matter of luck. Andrew Goodman, James Chaney and
Mickey Schwerner were three civil rights activists killed
in Mississippi in 1964. Carolyn Goodman and Ben Chaney remember
them not as symbols, but as young men and loved ones who
were too soon gone.

Other Interviews
I
did a number of other interviews about the 1960s that
I had to leave out of the book, as I've indicated, mostly
because a book can be only so big before people begin to
sue you for the hernias they got from carrying around.
I'm thrilled that I now have a place to put them to be
enjoyed by others besides me. They deserve it. I'm also
including a series of much shorter interviews I did for The
Bill of Rights Journal fifteen
years ago. Click on the names below to read the interviews.
This list will continue to grow, so check back to see more.
