Bernard LaFayette - One
of the original Freedom Riders from Nashville, he became
a SNCC leader, and later an organizer of the Poor Peoples'
March and a close associate of Dr. King. He now teaches courses
in non-violence at the University of Rhode Island.
Bob Zellner - A
white Alabaman from a Klan background, Bob Zellner nonetheless
became one of SNCC's earliest and most effective organizers.
He remains active in the movement and is now
a teacher and writer. His autobiography, "The Wrong Side
of Murder Creek," will be published this year by NewSouth
Books.
Gloria Richardson - led the effort to desegregate
Cambridge, Md. in 1963, in the process successfully taking
on both the Kennedy Administration and Martin Luther King. She
lives in New York City and works for the Department of the
Aging.
Paul Krassner -
was the editor of the Realist.
He lives in California where he is working on a novel and
contributes essays to magazine and blogs on contemporary
political and cultural issues.
Lee Weiner - formerly a Chicago social worker
and a member of the Chicago Eight, now works for the charity
Americares.
Daniel Berrigan - who
famously raided the draft board in Catonsville, Md. and burned
its files, is a poet and activist in New York City.
David Cline - was wounded three times as
an infantry soldier in Vietnam. He became an antiwar activist
after his return home and is still active in
the progressive movement.
Peter Berg - one of the leaders of
the legendary San Francisco Diggers, was the co-founder of
the environmental group, Planet Drum. He remains a leader
in the bioregional movement.
Elsa Marley - who
bridged both the Beats and the hippies and was a founder
of the Black Bear Ranch commune in Calfornia, is an artist
in Oakland.
Marilyn Webb - an editor, writer and activist
in the feminist movement, is an author and journalism professor
at Knox College in Illinois.
Frank Kameny - an
early gay activist in Washington, DC who helped end discriminatory
hiring practices against gays in the federal government,
is a retired physicist.
Barry Melton - formerly
the lead guitarist of Country Joe and the Fish, is still
playing guitar, but after teaching himself law while traveling
with the band, now spends his work day as a public defender
in Davis, California.
David Meggyesy -
A former linebacker with the St. Louis Cardinals who left
the NFL to write "Out of Their League," an expose about the
dehumanization of the game, he has
recently retired from his post with the NFL Players Association.
Verandah Porche - a poet who lives
in Vermont, she was one of the founders of the Packer's Corner
commune outside Brattleboro.
Barry Levine - The
former boyfriend of Allison Krause who was with her when
she was shot and killed at Kent State, he now runs a financial
services business in California. Allison's mother Doris also
participated in this interview.
